Path maintenance volunteers
Our work to protect the places we walk and encourage people to get out walking for both health and leisure wouldn’t be possible without the help of our thousands of dedicated volunteers.
This Volunteers Week we’re calling for even more people to join in the fun and get involved. We have lots of different ways people can take part, so if you’d like to support our work, we’d love to hear from you.
Become a route developer or checker
If you love walking, we have just the thing for you. We need people to develop walking routes to add to our growing library of Ramblers Routes. From city strolls to countryside hikes, we want to be able to offer people lots of varied routes across the country.
Thanks to our route wizard, panning and designing routes is very simple, you’ll just need to map the route and add any information about points of interest along the way. So if you have a favourite route you could share or a walk you know other people would enjoy, why not become a route developer?
Alternatively, you could help us to quality-check newly developed routes. As a route checker you would be road-testing the route description and map that the developer has created. If you find anything that needs to be changed, you’ll be able to make adjustments and then add your seal of approval before the route is made available for people to download.
Become a walk leader
Our local groups lead hundreds of walks for our members every week. Without our walk leaders we wouldn’t be able to offer more than 200,000 walks across Britain every year. We’d love to hear from you if you would like to become a walk leader.
Become a local campaigner
We need people to lobby locally to help protect and expand the places we walk, so if you are passionate about our paths and want to help increase walking opportunities, we need your help. We also need people to support our national campaigns.
Alternatively you could help to look after your local paths by becoming a footpath secretary or by joining a path team, help to run a local group or coordinate our groups, or even come and volunteer in our London, Cardiff or Milnathort offices. We’d love to have you on board.
