The problems surrounding neo natal care in Wales, in particular the lack of available cots due to staff shortages, made the headlines again today. Wales Online reports concerns that babies lives may be put at risk if the issues are not addressed.
Welsh Liberal Democrats locally have already expressed the view that the proposed realignment of critical care services, including neo natal provision, is a sensible move if handled correctly. However, we have also said that there is work to be done to assure the public that the standards of provision will be first class.
Reports such as this do nothing to allay the concerns of the general public. The underlying problems in particular staff shortages must be addressed as a matter of urgency by the Health Boards and by the Welsh Labour Government. They can no longer simply sit back hoping that things will get better, positive action is needed
