Hawthorn Swimming Pool

As a result of significant health and safety issues being identified, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has been forced to close Hawthorn Swimming Pool to the public with immediate effect.

A Council spokesperson said: "As part of an initial condition survey, including a health and safety review, a number of significant structural issues were indentified that could put at danger those who use and work at the pool.

"Following a further more detailed review, it is evident that we must fully understand the true extent of the problem and given that the certain areas of concern are within the sealed void above the pool, access must be gained to that roof space, which can only be done by draining the pool.

"Therefore, on health and safety grounds, Council's officers have no alternative other than to close this facility to the public with immediate effect.

"The Council's officers will now assess these structural issues and bring forward a detailed report on these matters for consideration by Members as soon as is practicably possible.

"The Council apologises for any inconvenience this may cause to users of this pool, but the safety of visitors and staff is of paramount importance."

Details of the Council’s other Leisure facilities and services can be found on the Leisure pages.
