Go That Extra Mile For Comic Relief!

Sign up to the Comic Relief Mile at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd, on Saturday, March 9

Raise a smile as well as loads of money for charity by signing up to the Comic Relief Mile at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park on Saturday, March 9.

Organised by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Sport RCT team, the fundraising fun run is expected to attract hundreds of people.

Cllr Robert Bevan, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development Leisure and Tourism, said: “Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s successful Leisure for Life campaign aims to get people of all ages active and undertaking exercise in a bid to improve their health and well-being.

“The Comic Relief Mile in Ynysangharad Park Mile, Pontypridd, promises to be the perfect way to do this, while at the same time raising money for charity as well as helping you reap the benefits of enhanced fitness.

“It is also the perfect opportunity for the people of Rhondda Cynon Taf to do their bit for Comic Relief.”

Those taking part in the family fun day are also encouraged to turn up in fancy dress, adding to the fun and carnival atmosphere of the day.

Participants will be able to walk, jog or run - the main aim is having fun and raising money for Comic Relief. There will also be the option of a one-mile, three-mile or six-mile route.

The event starts at 9.30am and entry is £3 per person. All monies raised, along with your entry fee, will go to Comic Relief.

The six-mile event will start at 10.30am, followed by the three-mile event at 11am and the one-mile event at 11.30am.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Leisure Services has a dedicated Sport RCT Team to help you get involved in all types of sporting and leisure activities. Regardless of age, interest or ability, the team can help you find a sport or activity that is perfect for you.

Simply make contact and tell them where you live and what you are interested in - and they can do the rest by making recommendations for clubs and classes, finding your nearest team and supporting you to get involved.

To prepare yourself for the Comic Relief Mile, why not pop along to one of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s 11 leisure centres in order to boost your fitness levels and your running distance.

And on March 9, you too can join hundreds of other like-minded walkers and joggers, all raising money for a worthy cause.

The 2013 Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Comic Relief Mile takes place at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd, on Saturday, March 9. To register to take part contact Sport RCT on 01443 490209 or email sportrct@rctcbc.gov.uk
