Five members from across Wales have been chosen to make up the team for the European Rally, which is being hosted by Wales YFC in Margam Park on 9th – 16th August 2014.

The opportunity to attend the European Rally is one of the travel and learning opportunities offered by Wales YFC to its members as a part of the International Programme.

The European Rally is an annual event organised by the European committee for YFC’s, Rural Youth Europe. During the event a number of different teams of YFC members from across Europe will meet to participate in activities designed to bridge the gap between members from different cultures and backgrounds. The members will also be given the opportunity to interact socially with like-minded individuals from different countries.

This year Wales YFC has the honour of hosting the Rally and is currently planning a week of events and activities based on the theme “Tomorrow’s world – Creating a sustainable future for you, your organisation and your rural community”.

Enfys Hatcher of Llanwenog YFC in Ceredigion is this year’s team leader of the rally. Enfys is head of the Welsh department at Tregaron High School and is currently Vice-Chairman of Wales YFC’s Marketing & Communications Committee.

Enfys will be accompanied by learning support assistant, Rhian Mai Davies, a member of Llandovery YFC in Carmarthenshire who is looking forward to working with the 'girl power' team on her first YFC travelling experience.

The third member is Laura Elliot, from Gower YFC in Glamorgan. Laura is a Regional Development Officer for the Welsh Local Government Association and is currently Glamorgan YFC’s Competitions Chairman & County Treasurer. This is Laura’s first experience of travelling with YFC and is looking forward to meeting people from varied backgrounds and cultures and learning about how countries differ in their approach to Rural Youth.

Also joining the team will be Bethan Williams from Caernarfon YFC in Eryri. Bethan is a primary school teacher and is also looking forward to her first experience of travelling with Wales YFC.

The final member of the team is Vicky Hope from Builth Wells YFC in Brecknock who works for Powys children’s services. Vicky has never travelled with YFC before but is looking forward to learning about others cultures and the opportunity to showcase Wales to the rest of Europe.

Speaking on behalf of the team Enfys Hatcher said; “Unique and unforgettable. Two words to describe my experience in the European Rally in Slovenia, and I’m lucky enough to be going again this year, as the leader of the Welsh Team! The five of us are all extremely excited to be attending the Rally on behalf of Wales YFC, and are very privileged to be the team participating in the Welsh Rally in Port Talbot this year. This is the main Rural Youth Europe event, where members from over 20 countries come together for a week to learn about different cultures and ways of living. Indeed it’s an important and worthwhile event. It broadens our horizons, it’s an opportunity to meet people from different countries who are in the same situation as you are, it’s an opportunity to promote the organization within Europe, and lastly, it’s a week of fun and laughter. It promises to be a Rally to remember!”

The team are currently busy collecting sponsorship for the trip and they are extremely grateful to all those who have supported them so far. Anyone who wishes to take this opportunity to assist our Wales ambassadors through sponsorship, produce or t-shirts, which will be advertised to the rest of Europe, should contact Enfys Hatcher, Team Leader, via the Wales YFC Office on 01982 553502.
