Get Aboard Rhys Cycle's Summer Safari

Join Rhys Cycle on his Summer Safari!

Looking for somewhere different to take the children during the school holidays?

Why not be adventurous and journey in to the world of recycling by embarking on a special expedition to join Rhys Cycle’s Summer Safari?

Demand to get aboard the trips is huge – so book your place now!

Based at the Amgen-Cymru Visitor Centre at Bryn Pica, Llwydcoed, the Council’s very-own ‘Green’ mascot’ Rhys Cycle will welcome visitors to his Summer Safari.

Discover why recycling is so important for the whole County Borough. Uncover lots of recycling secrets and witness first-hand how waste can be used to create some amazing new items.

For example, did you know your used plastic bottle could become a material bag? Or your dad’s old car tyre could become a pencil case? Or your food waste could become your garden compost?

Visitors also get a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at what actually happens to your recycling bags once they arrive at Bryn Pica.

But the highlight of Rhys Cycle’s Summer Safari will be the minibus trip to the actual landfill site where visitors discover the devastating effects of what could happen if they do not recycle.

Visitors will also learn all about how and where their non-recycled waste goes and how Rhys Cycle uses some of the gasses generated to power their X-Box or TV’s at home.

They will also head along to the mini-Material Recovery Facility – where all of our recycled waste is separated on one big rolling line – and even help out with some sorting.

Cllr Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Sport, said: “I am delighted that so many people enjoy going on our Safari expeditions with Rhys Cycle.

“They visit the site and learn all about the environment work that goes on there, as well as participating in some recycling work themselves.

“As well as using the equipment and helping reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, they also get a fascinating insight into how important recycling is to us all.”

Recently, an amazing 1,500 recycled plastic bottles have been re-used at Amgen-Cymru to make a greenhouse - don’t forget to ask about this when on the Summer Safari!

To book you place on Rhys Cycle’s Summer Safari, call the Council’s Streetcare Team on 01685 372904. Visitors are advised to wear suitable clothing as although it is the summer months, conditions can sometimes be messy and muddy.
