Cllr Ann Crimmings donned fancy dress for Operation Bed Push

Shoppers cheered on fundraisers in fancy dress who took to the streets, pushing a hospital bed from Pontypridd to Llantrisant, in aid of three charities.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor Cllr Ann Crimmings - dressed as TV character Andy Pandy - joined the Operation Bed Push team on March 29, 2014 who were out raising money for her Charity Appeal.

Mayor Cllr Ann Crimmings has chosen to support Guide Dogs Cymru, Macmillan Cancer Support (RCT) and Diabetes Peer Support for Children (RCT) during her year of office.

The fundraising team left the Municipal Buildings in Pontypridd and arrived at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, with numerous stops on the way, including the retail centre at Talbot Green.

Around £900 was generously donated by people along the route towards the three charities. Staff from the Royal Glamorgan Hospital pushed the bed and adults and children linked to Diabetes Peer Support for Children (RCT) helped out with bucket collections.

Cllr Crimmings said: “We were lucky to have a wonderful, sunny day for the bed-push which was well-supported by the public. A big thanks to everyone who donated money and cheered us on our way.

“Thank you to all the businesses who supported us on the day; to Marilyn Lowes who co-ordinated the volunteers, staff at the Hollybush Inn, Church Village who supplied a much-appreciated free lunch and the University of South Wales, for opening up their car park for a well-earned rest stop.”

Another recent event to take place in support of the Mayor’s charities was a bowling night held in Nantgarw Bowlplex which raised over £200. There are also a number of great events lined up in the coming weeks to raise money for the Mayor’s Charity Appeal, including:

- An Easter egg hunt for children at the beautiful Dare Valley Country Park, Aberdare, on April 19 and 20 and Lap the Lake fun run also at Dare Valley on April 20.

- The Welsh Three Peaks challenge on May 10.

- A Golf Pairs Tournament at Aberdare Golf Club on May 16.
