Commenting on airline Flybe’s decision to withdraw two routes from the recently nationalised Cardiff airport - to Paris and Glasgow – Shadow Minister for Transport Byron Davies AM, said:
“At a time when Carwyn Jones and Welsh Labour should be growing Cardiff Airport – in the interests of Welsh taxpayers – this development is nothing short of extremely worrying.
“While I appreciate the commercial decisions of a business, Labour ministers should be asking themselves why Flybe has taken this option and why customer numbers are so low.
“After spending 52 million pounds of public money on this airport, seeing further routes pulled should act as an extremely loud wake-up call.
“We still await the publication of a clear strategy for airport growth and guarantees that taxpayers will see a return on their money.
“Before more routes are pulled – I urge Carwyn Jones to put new and effective measures in place to grow and boost the publicly owned Cardiff Airport.”
