Floods: Praise for communities and emergency services

Commenting on today’s floods across Wales, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives Andrew RT Davies AM, said:

“The extremely hard work of the emergency services and an incredibly strong community spirit have again shone through in Wales in the face of extremely challenging circumstances.

“While we all hope events like this remain rare, recent years have highlighted the great strength and bravery of all those affected by, or involved in, similar life-changing incidents.

“My thoughts are with those all those affected today and I urge everyone to follow the advice of emergency services throughout the weekend.

“Serious flooding has become increasingly common and it remains incumbent upon the Welsh Government to deal with these incidents take steps to alleviate the causes.

“We need to know what liaison has taken place between Natural Resources Wales, emergency services and local authorities – and if Welsh Ministers have received requests for additional resources or held meetings to discuss those needs.

“Future measures to prevent coastal flooding are crucial, and similar importance should also be placed on the threat posed by inland waterways
