Flood Update 25/01/2013

Environment Agency Wales

Environment Agency Wales is asking people to remain vigilant for localised flooding as further heavy rainfall is forecast over the weekend.

Following the heavy rainfall forecast for Friday evening, further bands of persistent rain are expected to reach south east and mid Wales late Saturday afternoon continuing overnight into Sunday.

Milder temperatures will result in a rapid thaw, which may contribute to excess surface water.

The rain will clear east during the early hours of Sunday morning but further heavy showers are expected to follow later in the day and throughout the evening.

The unsettled weather is likely to continue into the early part of next week.
These conditions are likely to result in excess water on our roads and flooding from blocked drains and streams.

Once again rivers could rise in response to the rainfall and flood alerts may be issued but the likelihood of flooding from larger rivers remains low.

Environment Agency Wales is advising people to take extra care on the roads as driving conditions could be hazardous.

People are advised to keep a close eye on the forecast over the weekend and listen in to local news updates for details of any disruption in their area.

For the latest on flood alerts and warnings go to http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/flood or call Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
