Fashion Success at USW

Nia Richards

A second Fashion Design student at the University of South Wales’s Newport City campus has reached the final of a national competition run by Graduate Fashion Week to design a new collection of ladies wear.

Kayleigh Hilde is the latest student to get through to the London shortlist and finals, along with fellow student Charlotte England.

There are only 6 UK national finalists and both Charlotte and Kayleigh’s designs were chosen from the best universities from 100’s of students entries from around the UK.

All six finalists will have their collections featured at Graduate Fashion Week Event 2014. The winner and runner up will then go on to be highlighted in the prestigious Gala Fashion Show Event Evening which take place in front of a star-studded audience of celebrities, media and fashion industry VIPs. USW City Fashion students won first and second place of this award last year awarded by top industry judges and are hoping to succeed again this year.

Further to this success, Nia Richards, a 3rd year Fashion Design student at City campus has reached the final for SalesGossip’s first student design competition, where the winner’s design will be published on the first 100 exclusive tote bags. Nia is hoping to win with her design entitled Wild Monochrome.

Irene Dee, programme leader for Fashion Design at City campus commented, “This is an excellent achievement for Charlotte, Kayleigh and Nia; it demonstrates the extremely high calibre of our students and we’re really proud of their achievements.”
