With such a huge range of services and support on offer – from recycling to free play, benefits and employment, access to sport and free social activity for more, the Council is keen to showcase them.

Its popular Family Open Day returns on Friday, February 15 at Michael Sobell Sports Centre, Aberdare, and aims to share essential information on help and services, while also offering a great, free day out with activities and attractions.

The day includes:

Free coaching from former British gymnastic champ Caryl Griffiths, who is now coach of the Wales Team. She runs regular gymnastic classes at Michael Sobell Sports Centre and she and her students, some of whom are also now members of the British squad, will be putting on displays and taster sessions throughout the day. Find out how the Government changes to the benefits system could affect you. Workshops with friendly and highly trained staff will be open to allow you to secure more information, find out how you could be affected and where to seek further help.

Free, fun taster events and activities, most of which are on offer in your community, free, throughout the year. These include:

Sports village which includes a bungee run, football & rugby coaching, and climbing wall

Theatrical makeup
Face painting
Various arts & crafts
Circus skills
Street dancing
Improve your Application Form and Interview Skills. If you are looking for a new job, we will be running sessions throughout the afternoon to help you present the best-possible application or CV to land the interview and even the job. There will also be hints and tips to help you prepare for the job interview.

The Open Day runs from 9.30am to 7pm on Friday, February 15.
