Education Conference Celebrates Emerging Technologies

Education expert Professor Stephen Heppell will lead an innovative conference next week to illustrate the positive impact of ICT and Emerging Technologies in our schools.

The award-winning educationalist and broadcaster will spearhead the event, organised by the ‘Learning and Innovation Network for Schools’ (LiNKS) which forms part of the Central South Consortium Joint Education Service, at the University of Glamorgan on February 7th 2013.

The conference will offer delegates the opportunity to meet with colleagues from across the Consortia of schools from five local authorities in South East Wales to share best practice in all aspects of ICT and Emerging Technologies.

Delegates will have the opportunity to take part in hands on workshop sessions as well as attend presentations from colleagues in a bid to spread the excellent practice in schools throughout the Central South Consortium.

The topics covered will include:

The Digital Classroom
The use of Virtual Learning Environments
Computing in Schools
Using mobile devices in the classroom
Delegates will collaborate with colleagues, developing learning communities to spread good practice throughout the consortium as well as having the opportunity to engage with suppliers of both hardware and software.

Practical sessions and presentations will be led by schools and digital leaders within the Consortium.

The Local Authorities of Bridgend, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Vale of Glamorgan have joined forces to create the Consortium which works with all schools in the region to transform education and student achievement.

It monitors and challenges performance and supports improvements in member schools while also creating networks of schools to share good practice and knowledge,

The Conference will include presentations from a range of speakers including Lindsay Harvey from the Welsh Government on the National Learning Platform, Janet Hayward from the National Digital Learning Council for Wales, Tim Crick from Computing at Schools and Simon Shaw from the ICT Association NAACE.

Participants will also have ample opportunity to engage with effective practice workshops and exhibitions celebrating the very best practice in digital learning.

Sharing Good Practice Conference for Emerging Technologies will take place at the University of Glamorgan’s Glamorgan Conference Centre on February 7th 2013 from 9am to 3.30pm.
