Distraction burglary: Trealaw

Distraction burglary: Trealaw

Police in Rhondda are appealing for information following a distraction burglary in Trealaw on Wednesday, January 16th.

At 10:15am an 83 year-old woman was lured out of her home on Brithwelnydd Road by a man who had knocked the door to tell her he had just damaged her wall.

The woman agreed to go out to see the damage and was kept talking for about 10 minutes. When she was heading back to go indoors, she noticed another man leaving her house.

She soon realised that her property had been searched, and then contacted police suspecting she had been burgled.

Both men involved are described as being between 26 and 30 years-old.

The man who knocked the door had a thin face, and was wearing a tan colour hat with a front peak, and tan coloured trousers with gloves.

The male who was seen coming out of the address had a rounder face with a stocky build, and was wearing a dark knee length jacket, and dark trousers.

Detective Sergeant Lee Swallow said:

“This vulnerable victim was clearly targeted by these two men.

“She has been left traumatised by her experience.

“If anyone noticed anybody acting suspiciously in the area on Wednesday they are urged to contact South Wales Police’s non emergency number 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
