Britain’s Personal Best aims to capture that extraordinary social energy unleashed by the London Olympics and Paralympics. It encourages charities, schools, community organisations as well as members of the public to strive for their own personal best, be it in sports, arts, education, or enterprise. The first ever Britain’s Personal Best Weekend is on 4 - 6 October 2013.
The fastest-growing health threat in the UK
Diabetes is the fastest-growing health threat in the UK. There are 3 million people in the UK living with diabetes, and around 850,000 more that have Type 2 diabetes but don't know it. Around 7 million adults in the UK – that's one in seven – are at high risk of diabetes, and that number is rising all the time. If not managed well, diabetes is also a major cause of lower limb amputation, blindness, kidney failure and stroke. Each year in the UK 24,000 people die early from diabetes.
Diabetes UK will be developing a number of challenges which will look to engage individuals from across the UK to take part; one of these challenges will focus on attempting to break our own record by delivering one the largest charity collections ever seen in the UK. The Big Collection will take place in 600 locations right across the UK and will need just over 8,000 fantastic volunteers to make it happen.
Can you be part of one of the biggest volunteer teams ever put together for a collection event? You will have the opportunity to raise lots of money, increase awareness of diabetes and learn how Diabetes UK support those with and at risk of diabetes. Other challenges and opportunities to get involved will be added soon.
