Department for Business Innovation and Skills announces funding boost for Alzheimer's disease

Alzheimer's Society

Today (9 June 2014) Universities and Science Minister, David Willetts, announced £48 million of investment in 70 research projects, including a revolutionary blood test to identify Alzheimer's disease
Alzheimer's Society comment:
'We welcome today's announcement of more funding for biomedical research in the UK, including a study into dementia. There is currently no definitive medical test for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease. Research in this area could eventually help us diagnose the condition more easily and even teach us more about what triggers dementia in its different forms.
'We know from our own research that a blood test to more accurately diagnose dementia is a priority for people affected by the condition. It will take a society wide effort to tackle dementia, but investing in high quality, relevant research is an important step.'
