Staff at Cwm Taf University Health Board joined together this week to spread the word about organ donation as part of National Transplant Week.

Staff from across the health board spent the week encouraging colleagues, patients and visitors to sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register and to share their wishes with their loved ones.

The ‘Spell it Out’ message is part of a national campaign by NHS Blood and Transplant to motivate more people to tell their families that they have signed the register and wish to donate their organs after death.

Research has shown that families are more willing to agree to donation if they know their loved one’s decision in advance.

Clinicians also took part in an organ donation ‘grand round’ which shares good practice and highlights key issues to all healthcare professionals within the health board. It was live-linked from the Royal Glamorgan to Prince Charles hospital to emphasise the importance of organ donation.
