A man who was verbally and racially abusive to A&E staff and who started a fire in a toilet has been jailed for 20 weeks following his violent outburst at the A&E department in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital on July 18, 2014.
Kenneth Gareth Howard, of Fardre Court, Church Village, Pontypridd, was sentenced to 20 weeks imprisonment after being charged with criminal damage, racially aggravated criminal damage and Section 5 public order offence and racially aggravated public order offence.
He pleaded guilty when he appeared before Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates Court on July 21, 2014.
Dave Lewis, Cwm Taf University Health Board’s Violence and Aggression Case Manager, said: “I am delighted with the verdict.
“NHS staff should not have to contend with abuse or violence when carrying out their duties.”
