£25,498.22 has been raised for Wales YFC’S Charity of the Year 2012/13; the British Heart Foundation Cymru.
Over the past twelve months Gwenno Griffith, Wales YFC’s retiring Chairman, has been conquering the twelve highest peaks throughout Wales in a bid to raise enough money to purchase a defibrillator for each of the Wales YFC County Federations. She has been well supported along the way with fellow members and supporters joining her on the hikes. They were met with torrential rain in Pembrokeshire, snow in Ceredigion and blistering heat on the 13th July when the three Powys Federations; Montgomery, Radnor and Brecknock, conquered their three peaks in under thirteen hours. Gwenno completed her challenge by climbing Wales’ largest mountain; Snowdon in mid-September.
One defibrillator has already been placed on the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show Ground, where the Wales YFC Centre is based, as a result of Gwenno and the YFC members’ hard work.
Gwenno presented the cheque to the British Heart foundation at the Wales YFC AGM that was held at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. There to receive the cheque was BHF Cymru Appeal Patron Rhodri Morgan and Appeal Ambassador Arfon Haines Davies, along with Sion Edwards, BHF Cymru Fundraising Volunteer Manager.
After announcing the grand total, Gwenno said;
"I'm very proud of all the members that worked hard to achieve this grand total of a donation to BHF Cymru. It has been a fantastic effort by all, and I have really enjoyed the experience of walking the mountains with the members in each county. It is fantastic to see the first defibrillator arrive on site at the showground, a sign of the importance of this appeal"
Wales YFC would like to thank all members and friends of the organisation who have supported this very worthwhile cause.
