The Media Academy Wales has announced a season of masterclasses for 2013, kicking off with a feature film producing masterclass with Iain Smith, producer of films such as Chariots of Fire, Cold Mountain and The A Team.
Iain will take part in the Q&A masterclass with an audience of 100 students, graduates and BAFTA Cymru members on the evening of January 14th at the University of Glamorgan’s ATRiuM campus in Cardiff.
The Q&A will be led by Welsh producer Kate Crowther and the masterclass will offer those attending an insight into the multi-million dollar feature film production industry, with a focus on funding, use of visual effects and distribution.
Iain is also heavily involved in training and film education at Universities and is currently Chair of the Film Skills Council, the UK Film Industry Training Board, the British Film Commission, and the Skillset Craft and Technical Skills Academy is a member of the Industry Panel of the Media Academy Wales.
He will also be keen to offer those attending advice on how to progress their burgeoning careers in the creative media industry.
Iain is currently producing the new Mad Max film in Africa and will be attending the masterclass during a rare break in the filming schedule.
“The Media Academy is very excited to be hosting this masterclass with such a well-respected and experienced film producer,” said Hannah Raybould, Manager of the Media Academy Wales. “Our main aim is to ensure that students are equipped with the information and skills to gain work in the creative media industry and hearing from those who are working at the top of their field, as well as engaging with our placements and mentoring, ensures that students’ knowledge is relevant and up to date.”
